The process of writing this particular column has been, perhaps predictably, an exercise in using various tools that allow me to jot down notes, and hopefully find them (or remember to look for them and find them) when I later need them. Numerous times in the past I've reported that I use a variety of tools to help me organize my thoughts and focus my writing. The fact that I relied on these tools in the preparation of this column isn't the result of a concerted effort to prove that the concept of marginalia is truly important to my writing. There really isn't anything to prove. On the other hand, it certainly is a logical extension of the topic at hand.
