It goes both ways.

I don't have statistics, but it's a good guess that just about everybody whose work involves using a computer checks his or her Facebook account throughout the work day. They most certainly check their email, and why not glance at the news, or a sports site, while the coffee is still hot. Over twenty years ago, my first Macintosh had a game of Othello with a stealth mode called, I think, "Quick, the boss is coming". A click on that menu item brought up a demi-spreadsheet that made it look as though you were really getting work done. This was probably a joke, but a prescient one. As I've already suggested, the computer evened out the playing field - anything on it was pretty much like anything else, so there was no reason to really distinguish between work and play. If we were going to be required to bring our work into our leisure, it definitely made sense to find ways to allow our leisure to infiltrate our work.
