Can't it just be fun?

When it suggests that through play we can find creative solutions to various problems, I like the idea of "serious play". But that doesn't mean that I don't also find something disturbing in the term. By becoming "serious", play becomes something we do to achieve a goal, rather than a goal in itself. And to my mind there's something contradictory, even self-defeating, in that.
