If a web site isn't there anymore, the next best thing is a cached version of it in Google. I've had more than a bit of luck finding cached versions of pages that weren't available any longer at their original URLs, though nothing like the luck of the guy who found almost his entire web site after both a server and hard disk crash made him think that he'd lost his entire site. I figured I had a good chance of finding a copy of the more-or-less original Kevin Bacon six degrees site cached in Google, but you can't win 'em all.
