The electricity is never really off in our house. But that's not only because we leave a light on at night in case one of the kids wakes up. It's simply become very hard to shut off all the electricity. The video and the microwave have clocks that always tell us the time, even if they're always different. Our video doesn't flash the apocryphal 00:00 (I know how to set it), but the stereo has a clock that appears only after there's been a blackout. It starts flashing the time that the electricity went off. Most of our appliances have tiny lights, either red or green, that are continually on, even when the appliance is off. Even if we turn the night lights off we still feel the presence of these. Frankly, I can't seem to remember the last time I was really in the dark in our house. Rather unsurprisingly, we're most aware of our electricity when it (like our internet connection) disappears.
