Truth in packaging.

Would it really make a difference to anyone reading this were I to write that I subscribe to 35 professional blogs when the actual number is 40 (or perhaps 38)? I greatly doubt it. Still, accuracy seems called for here - if for no other reason than when writing for the web it's much too easy to start skidding down the slope of exaggeration and of half-truth. So, I actually counted.

But of course it's also more than that. Reporting a definite number on a dated page gives me the opportunity to check, let's say a year from now, to see to what extent that number has changed. This particular count, for instance, doesn't include a number of blogs that seem totally dormant but are still on my list. Will I remove these, or will I continue to let them hint to me that they held an unfulfilled promise? Will there be others that will also whimper themselves into disuse? Will I have added numerous others that will consume yet more and more of my time? Chances are good that all of these will have happened, and more. That being the case, an accurate counting as of this writing can help me keep tabs on this process.
