Who wants yesterday's files?
Off the top of my head I can think of a whole list of reasons for not throwing
out old files, and only a very few of them have anything to do with vanity. It's
not only a question of saving snippets of thoughts that I think I'll want to use
in some future writing (or, as the flip side of that same coin, being able to
check whether I've already written something that I presently want to write about).
Accessing an old document allows me to check whether (and how) my thinking on
a particular subject may have changed, it offers me a framework from which I can
further develop a thought, and on a purely technical level, it can function as
a template for creating a new document.
