The first Boidem column was posted almost exactly twenty years ago - on July 22, 1996. As I've already tried to explain, a number of years went by without Boidem columns such that this column can rather accurately be considered the bar mitzvah edition. But HebCal tells us that the parasha for July 22 twenty years ago would have been Vaetchanan. There are various issues that have to be taken into consideration when determining when a bar mitzvah will be held, and that being the case I don't have any qualms about being "born" under a different parasha than the one upon which I've chosen to celebrate. I'd even claim that this is a lucky and serendipitous coincidence, if it wasn't for the fact that I definitley planned it.
