Today, television commercials probably have a hard time convincing us that a particular toothpaste can really make someone's teeth so white and shiny. No matter how wonderful that bath soap is, we're not going to have the experience the model in the bath is having. And the same is true for trying to get work done while reclining on a beach chair. In a short article from almost two years ago Daniel Vaarik asks: Why Do We Lie About Laptops On The Beach? He doesn't really answer that question, but he shows us that the promise has been around since computers became portable, and he brings a number of good examples to convince us that the experience is far less satisfying than what it's made out to be.
