He really is watching.
Numerous surveys report on the number of hours that people in general spend on social media. These are easy to find. But while I'm sure that some have also tried to determine how much time is devoted to social media (and non-work-related tasks in general) during work hours, I haven't found them. Years ago I remember seeing reports of how many work hours were lost to web surfing during work, but I guess I've been looking in the wrong place because I can't find new reports of this sort. Of course there's another reason for this as well - our bosses, or at least our IT departments, know very well what we're doing when we're in front of our computers, and because we know how easy it is to keep an eye on us, we've learned to be careful what we use those computers for at work. Since in the digital age even the smallest piece of data is accessible, the statistics most definitely exist. It might be that we really don't want to know.
