Some dates immediately jump out at you and remind you of the significant events that took place on that particular day. Other dates demand at least a bit of searching and sifting, until you find something that may not be remembered well in the world's collective consciousness, but deserves to be. I try and find dates of that sort for the date link in each of these columns. But sometimes a date can simply be significant by its lack of any particular significance. That doesn't mean that interesting people weren't born on that particular day, or that some redeeming invention was patented then, or something similar. What's significant for one person is eminently forgettable to another. Still, no event that took place on the posting date of this month's column merits - to my mind at least - special attention. Sometimes that happens.
