I readily admit that the mathematical models that these researchers build are well beyond my comprehension. I'll stick to the popularizing end of things in which I try not to make myself seem overly shallow as I delve into what is hopefully a more or less acceptible metaphorical meaning of what for me is highly esoteric research. But even if most of this research is well over my head, sometimes you can't help but like the people who conduct it. In a list of publications by Strogatz I discovered that one of his papers is entitled Love affairs and differential equations, and I immediately took a liking to the guy.
