Another sort of "six clicks"?

If a web site isn't there anymore, is a link to it the next best thing? Can we expand the "six degrees" game to something along the lines of "six degrees of virtual links"? In a game such as this contestants would be challenged to find as many links as they can to a site that no longer exists, getting extra points for finding a site that no longer exists that links to the desired site. I don't know if this is true for anyone else, but for myself discovering a no-longer active link to something which just might be something I'd really like to see has a bit of a holy grail quest quality. I can quite readily waste half an hour of time I don't really have to waste on trying to find a page that I've tried to click to but only reached a broken link in stead. My experience tells me (from sometimes actually succeeding in reaching the desired page) that it really isn't worth the effort, but more often than not it's the challenge that attracts me rather than the promise of interesting information.
