A solution that's definitely out of my price range.

When I bring a lecture prepared on CD I use the hardware of wherever I'm making my presentation. That means that I don't have to worry about hooking a laptop up to a projector because that's already been taken care of by the school/institution/whatever. I usually carry an old laptop around with me as a fallback solution if (as occasionally happens) problems arise with the computer I'm supposed to be using. But can I be sure that the projector where I'm lecturing will hook up withou difficulty to the laptop? Experience tells me that I can't. And that means that if I'm going to invest in a new laptop so that I won't have to continually burn new CDs, it wouldn't hurt to invest in my own private projector so that I can eliminate any and all doubts about things not running smoothly. Except that an investment of that scope is well beyond anything I can afford.
