You call that a vacation?

Just what sort of vacation am I taking if when I'm not busy trying to find the time to sit down and write I'm trying to check my mail and responding to messages that demand a response? Maybe I can make a case for accessing my mail because I expected an important message, but checking almost every day seems to be going a bit too far. True, checking my mail didn't demand too much time, but it wasn't that quick, either. It entailed entering separately into three accounts and then deciding for each what could be thrown out without being read, what had to be set aside for later reading, what needed a prompt response and what could or should be forwarded to other people (hopefully not on vacation) for being dealt with. Performing these tasks made sitting down to write a column seem almost relaxing.
