I'm sure that at least part of a column of that sort would be "new" text, but rather than being an essay, it would primarily be a sort of puzzle in which snippets of text would link to issues raised in previous columns. To a certain extent such a page already exists - it's called the main contents page - but the idea here would be to find a reason to connect a series of subtexts to a new text in such a way that the subtext would (probably - I haven't worked all this out yet, right?) expand upon, or perhaps, if I could pull it off, contradict the main text. But though Nabokov could do this sort of thing in Pale Fire, I'm afraid that even trying to figure out how I'd do it is well beyond my limited abilities.
