That reminds me ...

The concept of tagging is intimately related to the great coming together of just about everything that this column is trying (not necessarily successfully) to describe. Over the past few years what was for a while considered a central mechanism of web navigation has fallen into disuse, and perhaps even ill repute. With so much happening around us, who has time to tag? And anyway, we all know that we're almost never going to return to a particular site, so what's the point in devoting effort to making it more readily retrievable. But back in the day tagging was the preferred method of intertwingling, of leaving ourselves and others breadcrumbs that hinted how we might get from here to there, or more to the point, to find the shortest distant between two not-necessarily-related points.
