Actually, it's by invitation

While it was still an "occasional column" email announcements for new editions went out to an extensive list of friends and acquaintances. I still have that list and I'm making use of it to let people know that a new, if also final, column is available. But I have no doubt that many of the email addresses that this will go out to are no longer in use, and probably some of those that do reach their destination will be met with a scratching of the head. Actually, that head scratching may generate more readership than the mailings from eight years ago and before, if for no other reason than curiosity, along the lines of "hey, I seem to remember that I once read this thing". Even if that curiosity generates a bit of interest, it's still a good guess that the posting of this column is more than a bit like the proverbial tree falling in a forest.
