With one or two big ifs

There was a time not too long ago when we were able to click on "Send" and feel rather confident that our mail would reach its destination. That was even the case when the list of recipients was sent as BCC which, as a measure of respect toward the privacy of my recipients I used. Today organizations that send out bulk mailings pay for professional services that somehow (I have no idea how this works) can ensure that mailings will reach their destination. It's my guess that for the rest of us chances are good that if the mail actually gets to the intended recipient it will go to their spam folder rather than their inbox. In other words, I really have no idea if this column will even reach my proverbial eight readers, let alone the extensive list of potential fellow travellers.

And if for some strange reason someone runs a search for the sort of issues that are raised in these pages? Will Boidem pages show up in the search results? There's a definitive answer to that question: maybe. When I moved The Boidem to my own domain I asked Google to crawl the site. It sort-of did that. I think it's once a year that Google tells me that it can't properly/fully crawl The Boidem:
no crawl
Though I'm quite sure that at the bottom line what Google means to tell me is that it simply doesn't care whether my pages are crawled and indexed or not, what it explains to me is that for some reason it can't do the crawling. That doesn't mean that as an AI it doesn't know a thing or two - sometimes correctly, sometimes not.
